How to bond with your new Sugar Gliders. My tips and tricks.

Hey you guys!

It has been a while but oh my God when I say thank you so much to all of you that has been emailing me and asking me questions such as about how to maintain and tame your sugar gliders, honestly have to say I feel so honored and touched from the deep of my heart by this sudden interest. I am truly sorry for replying very late to all of you for I was away with college clubs and studies but now I am back and hopefully, I am able to keep track with things.

Anyhow straight to the reason as to why I decided to suddenly post this topic out was because many of the emails that I have been receiving is regarding basic things such as How do I tame my suggies? How to make them stop crabbing or biting at me? How do I bond with them faster?

How do I stop my suggies from biting and crabbing at me?

Now, let me give you guys a vague idea about what sugar gliders really are. They are animals or marsupials, as some will call them. Marsupials are the same family with the kangaroo whereby they carry they young-lings in their pouches. However marsupials or not they are still considered as animals and all or mostly majority of the animals from the animal kingdom, they are bonded through scent. Yes, through your smell.

What does this naturally mean? This means that in order for your suggies to stop biting or crabbing at you is by making sure or ensuring them that you are not a danger to their lives, safe to say meaning that you are not their enemy but rather their foe/family. But how do you do this? It is rather simple really.

1. The step is called SACRIFICE.

Now don't be alarmed or scared when I say the word sacrificed. What I mean by sacrifice is that, you will need to sacrifice a piece or cloth (t-shirt/shorts/pajamas) or more than a piece. However it is not just a typical cloth this cloth needs to be used by you constantly such as a stinky pajama or used t-shirt after doing some sports activities. Now, why you ask that they need to be used and stinky at that? It is because when you use your pajamas when you sleep or a shirt that you use to play a ball game for example, your body scent is all over that piece of cloth. You can't smell it but your suggies can. So, once you have made a sacrificial cloth all you need to do is drape them around your suggies cage. If you have something that can really be sacrificed and has been used all the time and you are sure your scent is all over it, you can cut them into small pieces and place them inside your suggies sleeping pouch or bonding pouch. This way your suggies will be able to smell you all the time through the day and at one point they will initiate the fact that you are in fact one of their pack members. Concluding into less crabbing and biting.

P.S: The cloth needs to be used with no perfume or deodorant. Another side note is that suggies will not stop biting or crabbing totally because that is their safety mechanism so even after years of bonding if you suddenly disturb them sleeping when you should't be, they will crab and bite, not because they don't know you but they were shocked. Just like us humans what would you feel like if someone woke you up at 4 am in the morning, to ask whether or not you had done the laundry. You'd be cranky as well.

2. The next step is called BRAVERY.

By bravery I mean, is that you need to be strong and fearless because this  next step is not an easy step and can be considered quite painful if your suggies are really afraid you.

What is it that you need to do that sounds frightening? You need to be brave and place your hands in your suggies bonding pouch when they are sleeping or plainly not doing anything. However do not just simple place your hands in the pouch especially if you have newbies, they will bite, concluding to making your hands to bleed and it will hurt. Instead, fist your hands into a ball and then place them into the bag ( make sure your thumb is placed inside the four fingers when you fist your hands). What is the difference? Placing a fist is much less painful when they bite because your fist will be harder than your hand (since usually you put your fingers first in when you use your hands - fingers are soft and much more sensitive so well go figure, it is much more painful), once the fist is inside the bag, don't suddenly take your fist out of the bag when they start to bite or crab. Crabbing and biting is a way for them to scare you and nothing more, if they manage to scare you and you take your fist out, to them that is a victory sign which ultimately ends with them NEVER stopping to bite or crab at you whenever you place your hand into the bag because they know for a fact you are afraid it. But you make dumb about it or act as if nothing is happening, they will stop biting and crabbing, when it is like this it means your suggies understand that you are not there to harm them. Once you succeed this step, just continue on with the fist inside the bag for half an hour to an hour. Usually they will sleep when the fist is in the bag, this is a good thing because they will smell you while they are fast asleep, making them more accustom to your scent as a family member.

3. The third step is to TAKE ONE STEP AT A TIME

Suggies are animals which means they are living creatures. Like all living creatures, we need time to accustom ourselves to a certain person especially if they face a horrible past. For those, who purchased from the night market, you need to understand, that some if them might be harder to bond with because depending on how the past owner treats them. If they are not loves or well cared for they will fear you more because you resemble the past owners that neglected them, that is one of the major reason as to why many of us, ask that you purchase home-breed suggies because they are loved and well taken care off. However if you can not afford the price but wish to get one anyway then it is fine, and I do not say that if it not possible for you to bond with them. Is it possible, but it will take a longer time and effort, so be patient and go where the tide takes you.

And finally here, I end my post for today. I hope this will help you with the bonding process, it may not be 100% workable but at least you can try it out. It worked for me so why not right? I pray that all of you to have a beautiful friendship with your suggies wherever you maybe. Have a nice day and take care.

As usual if you guys need any help please do contact, whatsapp, message, email or even comment down below for any information that you wish to acquire or any more tips you need.

Dinner Recipe For Sugar Gliders No. 1: Meatballs

Evening People!

As you may know from my most recent post, I have told you a bit of my life update and why I was missing but now that I have returned, I will be posting more interesting things for your suggies and how you can manage them better so they feel loved and nourished.

So for today's post, I will be writing a recipe for those newbies out there that are confused on what to feed your little fury friends. I have been doing this for almost a year and I dare say my suggies are happy with everything I feed them and all are healthy little things.

This recipe that I will be sharing is something that I give to my suggies on every other night. I DO NOT recommend it every might but probably once to two times every week. This dinner option is more like a treat or variety to your suggies diet, making them more happy and less cranky. Without further or do here is Dinner Recipe No. 1: Meatballs.

Ingredients Needed For Meatballs are:-
1. Ground Chicken.
2. Oatmeal.
3. An Egg.
4. Any herbs ( I use sweet basil or parsley), chopped finely.
5. Any vegetables ( I like to use carrots, bell peppers), diced.
6. Boiling water.

Equipment Needed:
1. Cutting board and knife.
2. Mixing bowl.
3. 1 tablespoon measuring scoop / 2 tablespoon
4. Zip Lock Bag and a plate.
5. Saucepan

Steps on making the Meatballs:-
To make the meatballs firstly, you have to mix up the ground chicken with the egg. Once fully combined, add in the oatmeal. Now this can be tricky as the ground chicken and the egg will be some what liquid-y therefore when you add the oat meal, you would want the liquid to be slightly absorbed by the oatmeal making it into a paste. When the mixture is malleable ( can be shaped) you have a good consistency. Shape your meatballs using a I tablespoon measuring spoon or I just use two spoons and shape them to my preference. Once shaped place them on your plate and freeze them or an hour or so. Once frozen take out your portion for the night and place the others in your zip lock bag for other meal times for your suggies. Boil water in your saucepan until they are bubbling hot. Then place in gently your meatballs into the water for 5-8 minutes. Once ready, JUST SERVE ( or let it cool down a bit) Super easy and your suggies will love them.

P.S: To make them more full, serve them with fresh fruits at the sides. OR a smoothie for your babies. ;)
This is how I relatively shape my meatballs so two suggies can eat them.

Conclusion:

I usually feed my suggies one meatball for 2 suggies since I have now eight. When in a hurry or in dire need of food I mainly turn to my freezer and boil these babies and serve them instantly. My suggies enjoy them and I am happy to make them since I prepare them on the weekends and the meatballs can last for a long while. Hope you enjoy this dish and meal for your suggies. Do leave a comment or email if you wish for more variety of recipes that I feed my suggies on. All the love from me. Goodnight and take care. XOXO.

Where Have I Been?

Well it has been a LONG LONG time since I updated my blogs. To all readers that commented before, I am so sorry if I was not able to fully comply to your needs. Last year was a very hard year for me as I was sitting for my SPM papers but thankfully that has passed and I am doing well in my University Life.

For my last blog post, I promised to write on those topics before but for the time being I will delay writing on those even more. If you truly wish to know more about the fabrics please do comment on them and I will give you my honest opinions on which fabrics does justice for suggies.

So, I am here to mainly tell you guys that if anything you wish for me to write about, please do so, I am willing to fulfill any of your needs, now that I have more time to spare on blogging. If in any emergencies, please do not hesitate on calling or emailing or even comment. I will do my best to reply as soon as possible, at any given time.

Heads Up!

So my next topic will be about fleeces and soft fabric now i don't know when I am going to post about it but soon I hope. Until then I hope whatever I have written would be much help. Hopefully soon I can talk about sugar glider's health. and the problems i faced when i got Miju. FYI Miju was probably the sickest one out of my gliders. But thank god, he is fine and healthy now. So stay tuned....

Pictures Of Sugar Gliders!

Now these photos are the photos that I just went and bought my first sugar glider which is Chloe. She was only 2 months at that time.

This is Chloe and Miju. Sorry Miju is a very shy glider getting his photo is like an impossible mission. Miju is the one being hidden by Chloe's ear.

This is Chloe.

Sugar Glider Cage: Vision Bird Cages.

Okay like I promise I am going to be talking or writing about the Vision Bird Cage and why i recommend Glider owners to own this particular cage. Now I am not being bias in any way possible its just that I have owned probably two different cages before I purchased this particular cage. Now thrust me I am no professional at sugar gliders but I have manage and succeed in taking care of one for 8 months now. That alone is an achievement for a 17 year old, doing this all by herself with her own pocket money. So imagine the damage that these little animals have done to my bank account. Not that I am complaining, i love them to bits and mostly they don't cost much its the cages that will hurt if you were to purchase the wrong one. Like I did, in my account the cages hurt the most. And if you wish to save your pocket from running out of money, then probably you should listen. Because I had wish someone had warn me about the cages cause then i won't feel the damage too much but sadly i do. I have probably wasted an amount of almost RM 1000 because of my lack in understanding cages and taking them lightly. Now new sugar glider owners or potential  owners to be one, listen up.

Now there is nothing wrong in buying the normal cages like the picture i posted before hand but if you haven't seen it here is the example:

Now like I said there is nothing wrong in buying this cage unless you don't mind its color coming off from the wires. because this is what I faced during the time limit I had bought and used this type of cage. Now what you need to know is that sugar gliders when they pee, they usually do it while hanging about at the cages which means their pee will mostly cover the wire mesh which undoubtedly will make the wire rust and stink. Sadly you can't do anything about it, well I couldn't. So i bought a different one seemingly they said it was better but i faced similarities and even worst cleaning it was horrible.
Another usually these cages have very easily open doors which means your sugar glider can get away. Beware sugar gliders are curious little animals anything they see, touch and smell they want to know. So if a door can open and close, they probably want to know how to open the door to freedom any animal will.

The cages that I am showing now is probably your best bet to easiness. This cage probably would be very safe for your glider. I don't have much to say but that these cages are probably my favorite. The doors are big and the locks are amazing. the cleaning technique is a little bit tricky but not hard. As for rusting its the longest for them to rust so best chances are that these are suitable cages. Nw the picture on the left is more suitable to gliders that have aged like 8 months and above while those who just bought a glider the right one would be more suitable. So that is it for now until next time. Leave a comment or send a message on any inquiries.

Sugar Glider Cage: Dealers Cheating

Hey Guys!

Okay, wow was this one postponed to long before it got out, haha. believe it or not I was to post about this almost two months ago but obviously failed to do so. But hopefully, I will be able to finish this blog post soon enough. So the topic is obviously about cages. Now sugar gliders are animals that are not to fussy about cages in some what sense meaning that usually in Malaysia, cages for sugar gliders comes from bird cages. Now in Malaysia, there are lots of choice depending where you are buy it from and how much is your budget.

If you are going to buy from stores like pet wonderland and other variety pet stores usually get yourself to bargain around RM 200- RM 500 depending on the brand but usually you can get cheaper at a downtown market. Yes, downtown market. However at a downtown market they usually will cheat you and your pocket so beware. They usually have a better cage hiding somewhere which is reasonably cheap and affordable. The cost can go from RM 150 - RM 250. I rarely see the price number of RM 250 but if you are unlucky with the seasons then yeah its better to buy at a pet store.

So the cages that a downtown market will try to sell you for approximately RM 150- RM 200 probably be looking something like this.

When actually fact they have something better that I know will cost either RM 150 for the cage longer in height but narrow in width or RM 200 for the cage shorter in height but wider in width. Now these cages are called Vision Cages and are usually my favorite choice of a cage. I'll explain in deeper detail regarding why in another post. Until then hope it helps.
